(P1683) "Beginning in 1933, these businesses were attacked by the National Socialists, supported by their lackeys and sycophants, with violent blockades and boycotts. They obstructed the operationof the businesses with a flood of regulations and laws. While some of them were initially able to compensate for domestic losses with their foreign exports, at the latest following the pogrom in November 1938 all Jewish business owners on the premises of today’s Ministry were forced to give up their shops. A total of at least nine businesses were transferred to the possession of non-Jews, and 50 were liquidated. 1Many clothiers were able to emigrate due to their international reputation, but others were deported and murdered by the Nazis. The Reich Justice Ministry flanked the efficiently organised mass murder with legislative initiatives." (language: en)
